VPN for Remote Work: Uses and Limits

Plan remote-work connectivity without confusing a VPN route with employer authorization, device management or zero-trust access, and keep support reports free of work credentials.

This guide does not claim that LionVPN provides enterprise identity, ZTNA, employer network access, device compliance or administrative controls. Follow your employer’s approved access process.

Separate connectivity from permission

A network route and authorization to a work resource answer different questions. NIST describes zero trust as granting no implicit trust merely because of network location, and treating authentication and authorization as distinct functions. A consumer VPN connection is not evidence of permission to access an employer system.

Keep the employer’s access controls

Use the required work login, multi-factor authentication and approved device. Obtain guidance before combining a personal VPN, corporate VPN or other access client. Do not disable employer security software, bypass certificate warnings or publish internal network addresses to make a connection work.

Check the actual work flow

Choose a non-sensitive permitted task such as reaching an approved public work landing page. Compare whether it is reachable with the authorized network configuration. If a corporate application fails, describe the failure rather than concluding that the VPN grants access or that the application is unavailable everywhere.

  • Separate installation, sign-in, network reachability and application authorization.
  • Check browser tasks and installed work applications separately.
  • Account for employer restrictions and application routing requirements.
  • Route availability or a changed public IP does not demonstrate device compliance.

Choose product scope before relying on it

For LionVPN, check the selected release and its installation instructions on Download. Ask Support about version-specific connectivity requirements. This guide does not determine a device allowance, an enterprise entitlement or availability of a particular protocol or route.

Keep work information out of support reports

Share the client version, operating system, general error category and a redacted screenshot where useful. Remove employer names, internal email addresses, account identifiers, passwords, access tokens, private URLs and document contents. Contact your employer through its existing private support channel for resource permissions.
